The Journey Continues... Welcome to HHH!

Welcome to Hair, Health and Heart! I hope you all are doing great and thank you so much for checking out my blog. I'm so excited to launch this blog because there's just so much that I want to share with you guys. My name is Ayanna and as per the name of my blog, I will be focusing mostly on my hair. It's been a journey and a half to say the least, but I'm so excited to share my year-long transition and what I've done to go from this...
 to this!
I will also be sharing parts of my lifestyle from wellness to beauty and everything in between. First, allow me to tell you a little about myself.

I am a proud Virgin Islands native from the gorgeous island of St. Thomas. Whenever I explain to people where the Virgin Islands is located, I tend to use Puerto Rico as a point of reference so just think of us as neighbors. We're a territory of the United States, only with much better beaches and friendlier people. I was born here and grew up surrounded by year-round sunny weather until I was about ten years old.

In the summer of 2005 before my 11th birthday I moved to Malden, Massachusetts with my siblings. It was the biggest adjustment I had to make but my middle school and high school years on the mainland turned out to be the best 8 years of my young life. However, one thing that never agreed with me was the cold weather. As an island child, I was used to the warm climate of the Virgin Islands. Fast forward to 2012 and I hightailed it back to St. Thomas where I started my first year of college. I mean, how can you not want to live here?
If you came for the hair, you've come to the right place! I have been officially natural since mid-November after transitioning for almost 13 months. Thanks to my lovely aunt and her gift of the Midas Touch, she kept my hair in beautiful protective styles while helping me to retain as much length as possible.

I'll be posting details about my hair journey and my current hair regimen in a few days. And just so you have an idea of what to expect...
You can follow me on Instagram at yanaelizabeth2394, and I will be making a Facebook page for this blog very soon but it's just going to be called Hair, Health & Heart. Thank you for reading and I'll be back with another post soon!

About Me

Hi, and welcome to my blog! My name is Ayanna and I'm so glad you stopped by. I'm a 22 year old college student from the island of St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands). Currently I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education with hopes of becoming a preschool teacher as well as a business owner. For as long as I can remember I have always loved children and it only made sense to choose a career path that will bring me nothing but joy and fulfillment.

Although I was born and raised here in St. Thomas, my mother moved my siblings and I to Malden, Massachusetts in 2005, where I spent my middle school and high school years. Despite the huge adjustment, those 8 years were some on the best of my life and I always thank my mother for giving me an opportunity to experience more than the island life.

But then again, I desperately missed the year-round 80 degree weather and laid-back lifestyle, so I decided to return to St. Thomas in 2012 to attend university. I studied at the University of the Virgin Islands only to transfer four years later to UMass Amherst Online near the end of, online being the operative word. I made sure that I did not have to return to Massachusetts to finish earning my degree.  I should be a college graduate within the next year and a half and I can't wait to see what lies ahead for me.

If you're interested, here's a few facts about me I thought I'd share with you:

1. I've been fully natural since November of 2016 after starting my transitioning journey in October of 2015.

2. I first decided to have my hair relaxed when I was 14. It was actually supposed to be a texturizer but the chemicals were left in my hair for too long and it turned bone straight. So I just rolled with it.

3. I'm a clone. I have an identical twin sister!

4. Food is love. Food is life. I love to eat!

5. I'm only 5 feet tall. I often get mistaken for 14 years old on average. The twin is only an inch taller than me. *Le sigh...*

6. My favorite style of dance is Polynesian. I learned Tahitian and Hula dancing in 2010 using YouTube as my teacher. I've always been in love with the cultures and would love to visit as much of the Polynesian Islands as possible.
7. I have three different business plans for the future. The first business is kids event planning, the second is a baby/toddler clothing boutique, and the third is a hair salon/day spa for children. I'm pretty sure I have more ideas but I'm the most adamant about these three. My backup plan is obviously being a preschool teacher, but I have big plans to become my own boss in the near future.

8.
I absolutely have no tolerance for bad grammar, especially if English is your first language. I rebuke it!

9.
If you're not a fan of memes, I apologize. You will be seeing quite a few of them in my posts. I'm proud of my weird sense of humor... I think it's hereditary.
10. My individuality is what I love most about myself. I'm different than most people and I'm never interested in what everyone else is doing. Trends just aren't my thing and that's good enough for me. I also love my gift of creativity. My family is so talented in many aspects of the Arts and I am so thankful that I have the ability to create and share beautiful things.
